Web Design / Web Development FAQs:
Do you provide web hosting?
Yes. We have teamed up with Flywheel Hosting to provide web hosting. However, we recommend that you bundle the web hosting service with our Web Maintenance Service to keep your website secure and up-to-date.
Do you provide web maintenance?
Yes. We keep your WordPress plug-ins and themes up-to-date and solve any design problems that may arise with future WordPress updates. We only update WordPress websites.
What's included in your WordPress web maintenance and support services?
Maintenance includes: WordPress core updates, theme updates, plugin updates, speed optimization, integration updates, broken link inspection & repair.
Support Services include: security monitoring & protection, email customer support, and flywheel customer support.
I need a business email address. Where can I get one?
We recommend G Suite (formerly Google Apps for Work).
Just think: Gmail personalized to your business. We have been using the service for nearly 10 years now and can't say enough good things. Get a free trial using our referral link. Ask us about the special promotion: 20% off discount.
What do I need to prepare in order to start my web project?
1) Get a domain name – we recommend Hover.
2) Gather content – photos, descriptions, and/or products.
I don't have content. Can you provide content for my website or marketing materials?
Sorry, we do not offer content creation services at this moment. However, we are happy to refer you to some of the best writers, photographers, and/or video producers.
I already have web design mockups. Can you just develop my website?
Yes. Our rate is $150/hour for web development. All web development services need to be reviewed. You can submit project inquiries via our contact page.
How long does a project usually take?
As little as 1 week.
Every client is different and requires special attention, so we do not estimate turnaround times until we review the project.
Squarespace vs WordPress, which is better?
We recommend WordPress. But Squarespace has some good qualities too.
WordPress offers thousands of plugins to help you add functionalities to your website at a low cost.
Squarespace makes it easy to get started with a decent drag-and-drop builder, and ownership is simplified with security, updates, and support.
WordPress.com (free) vs WordPress.org (stand-alone). Which one do you use?
We design and develop websites using the WordPress.org stand-alone version.
When it comes down to cost, freedoms, limitations, maintenance, and development considerations WordPress.org wins hands down. You can get a detailed scoop of how WordPress.com and WordPress.org versions compare.
What about Wix and Weebly?
We don’t recommend these platforms, because…
Wix and Weebly tend to use drag and drop style platforms that place a lot of restrictions on developers. While they are fast and easy in the early stages of your website and sound appealing when you are on a budget, they are difficult to customize when your business or studio is ready to grow. Most website developers find working with drag and drop platforms complicated because they are unable to manually change elements. A drag and drop interface places the most limitations to accessing the code and could be a barrier to hiring someone to help you.

What do you recommend for e-commerce: Shopify or WooCommerce?
We recommend Shopify for its easy all-in-one platform for merchants.
Shopify helps you get started pretty painlessly offering a highly optimized experience that works as expected. You'll even get fast-response technical support directly from the Shopify team. But of course, all of this comes with a price.
Although, WooCommerce is open source (free) and gives you full control of your e-commerce store with access to thousands of premade themes and plugins to choose from. Since options are endless with WooCommerce, you may need to hire an expert to help get your shop started and select the best plugins for your business needs.

If I commission a design project who owns the copyright and intellectual property rights?
By default all creative works produced by Fire Lite Design Studio remain the copyright of Fire Lite Design Studio. However, with brand identities we contractually hand rights over to the company. This allows us to protect our works from unauthorized modification, plagiarism or use that is beyond the scope of the original project.
Do you produce a style guide or brand guidelines document for other designers to follow?
Yes. As part of our Branding Level 3 service, we produce a brand guideline document for you. This illustrates to other designers and graphic professionals the design style for the brand image of your company through careful use of the logo, typefaces, colors, placement of elements on a page, and more.
